About Me

pet boarding for vacations

As a pet foster parent, I don't get to travel much. My home is always filled with furry friends that are waiting to find their forever homes. Every two years, I make sure to get away from home for at least a weekend. To do this, I have to find a place to board all of the animals in my care. If you have pets and need someone to watch them so that you can get away, you have some many wonderful options. This blog will show you some of the options to consider for boarding your pets while you're away.

Do You Have A Terrible Pet Sitter? 3 Signs That You Do

Some people may laugh at you when you say you need a pet sitter, but many people actually treat pets as a part of their family. In fact, some people have pets instead of children, and there is nothing at all wrong with that. Even if you have children in the home, you may still treat your pets as if they are just another member of the family. Therefore, you want to ensure they are taken care of when you are away. Whether you are going to be away for a week at a time or just during the day, you need to make sure you have a good pet sitter who has your pet's absolute best interests at heart. Here are three signs that you have a bad sitter and that it's time for a new one:

1. Unkempt Feeding Area

When you come home at the end of the day, how does your pet's water and food bowl look? Is the water bowl dried up? Is it dirty? Does the food bowl have bugs in it? Is dry food all over the place or has it gotten wet? Has canned food gotten crusty from sitting out so long? An attentive, caring pet sitter is going to be keeping an eye on the water bowl, ensuring that it remains full of clean, fresh water and that the area is kept clean overall.

2. Suspicious Signs of Possible "Accidents"

More often than not, you are going to be able to tell whether or not your dog had an "accident" while you were away. There are the obvious indications of accidents, such as seeing and smelling the evidence, while there are the not-so-obvious indications, such as suspicious stains on the carpet, scratches on the exterior door, etc. Over an extended period of time, if your canine has to "hold it," especially when they aren't used to having to do so, a bladder infection could develop, not to mention behavioral issues.

For cats, you will want to check the litter box to see if it has been cleaned throughout the day. If it has not, it could result in your feline becoming fed up and finding other areas of the home to go potty.

3. A Hostile or Fearful Pet

If you have a generally loving pet and your pet all of a sudden becomes fearful, hostile, or aggressive toward the pet sitter, this is a sure-fire sign that something is going on when you are not around. Pets do not show signs of aggression or fearfulness when there is not a reason.

If you have noticed any of these signs at your house, it may be time to reach out to a pet sitting service to find an experienced and professional pet sitter for your furry friend, who deserves someone who is going to love and care for them the way that you do. For more information, contact local professionals like Katie's Kitty.
