pet boarding for vacations

As a pet foster parent, I don't get to travel much. My home is always filled with furry friends that are waiting to find their forever homes. Every two years, I make sure to get away from home for at least a weekend. To do this, I have to find a place to board all of the animals in my care. If you have pets and need someone to watch them so that you can get away, you have some many wonderful options. This blog will show you some of the options to consider for boarding your pets while you're away.

Benefits Of A Puppy Cut For Long-Haired Dogs

If you have a dog with a naturally long coat, such as a cocker spaniel or a Yorkshire terrier, you probably enjoy the appearance of the coat more than the work needed for upkeep. If you keep your pet's haircut long, problems can arise if you don't put enough time into grooming it every day. So cutting it all short in a puppy cut may be an attractive idea.

Here are some of the benefits of cutting your dog's hair short (also called a puppy cut or sport cut).

1. Fewer tangles

When your dog's fur is less than an inch long, they're unlikely to fall prey to the kinds of snarls and mats that can plague a longer coat. Soft, silky fur is especially prone to matting, and the mats can be uncomfortable for your dog, especially if your dog has sensitive skin (which spaniels and small dogs often do).

The fewer tangles arise, the less often you'll have to check for mats and the less often you'll have to remove the mats or take your dog to the groomer to have them professionally removed.

2. Easier to spot clean

If your dog likes to play outdoors, he or she could step in a mud puddle and need a bit of spot cleaning. If your dog's legs are covered in bushy fur, cleaning mud out of it can be very difficult. With a puppy cut, though, your dog's leg will provide a smoother surface that's much easier to clean mud off of without immersing the entire leg.

As you can imagine, this feature of a puppy cut can make keeping your dog clean between grooming sessions much easier.

3. Less likely to overheat

A shaggy coat can sometimes keep in more heat, meaning that your dog could overheat more easily. So if your dog's fur tends to be not just long but also thick or shaggy, a puppy cut could help you keep your dog cooler in warm weather.

4. Easier to monitor for pests

When your dog goes outdoors, it could be at risk of picking up fleas or even ticks. With a very long coat, checking your dog over for pests could be quite a challenge. If you're not feeling up to that challenge, keeping the coat short may be the right option for you. A puppy cut can make it much easier to check over each part of your pup's body for pests.

These are just a few of the benefits you and your dog could experience when you choose to get your dog a puppy cut. Talk to a pet grooming service in your area about whether a puppy cut is right for your dog.
